There are a lot of different factors to consider when it comes time to consciously choosing a career. Money and job satisfaction are always going to be at the top of the list. But there’s another important one if you’re part of a larger family – and that’s the idea that you should be able to separate work stress from your home life. In other words, all things being equal, you want a career that still fits with you being able to enjoy your time at home.
To do this, consider a career in the example fields of public service, administrative duties, working from home, a job involving creative output, or even a job doing general manual labor. All of these choices illustrate how to keep work stress and home enjoyment separate.
Getting a job in public service is a great example of this type of career. You do things professionally that help out your community. There are probably hundreds of these types of jobs out there. And yes, there will be some stress involved. But, as a public servant, you can leave that stress at the job, and come home refreshed with the idea that once you hit your front door, you can focus on your family instead of other people.
Another set of jobs that will allow you to separate work and family are in the general administrative field. This would include jobs like being a secretary, or maybe do something like database entry or number analysis. You’d go to work, concentrate on these details in a manner that fits your work environment, and then go home knowing that all of those sets of numbers, and all of those lists of people, will be waiting for you the next day.
Working From Home
Many people find that a set of careers that works with having a happy home life actually involves working from home! This is because you can prioritize things on a minute-by-minute basis, rather than having a set schedule for things that you need to accomplish in the work realm. The additional flexibility is a huge benefit for many workers all around the world.
If you have a job that involves some sort of creative output, like being an artist or a writer, that will often mix with a happy home life as well. Because your efforts are focused on a specific creative task when you’re away from your family, when that switch turns off, you’ll find your partner and children very happy to interact with you.
General Manual Labor
And finally, there’s the idea that a good, hard day’s work of manual labor is very satisfying professionally, and then leads to a consistent feel of happiness at home. You’re physically spent, so you get to spend your emotional and mental energy on your family once you return from your day at a job site!
