What a Life with No Girls is Like

I understand how lonely, confusing, and isolating it can be to face a life without children when motherhood has always been in your plans. Nevertheless, life is not a matter of chance but a matter of choice. We choose our own path and the choices we made from the past had led us to the kind of life we’re living in today. It was never my life plan to have three boys but always dreamt of having one boy and one girl. I feel I was blessed and I am still blessed up to this day for having three gorgeous little grown-ups.

Everyone assumes I must be desperate for a girl, that I must feel lonely and isolated in a house pumped full of testosterone, and no one feels ashamed to tell me this in front of my sons. The message is clear: having boys is a curse, rather than a blessing. How insulting is this to my three beautiful boys? The world has moved on since then, but someone along the line, things have swung a little too far the other way.

As a mother of boys, I have had to rewrite my dreams and life journey to include sons versus daughters. And over the past few years, I have tried to come to terms with my feelings by reflecting on why exactly I feel it is so different to mother my amazing boys. But hey I am living this life with no regrets at all.

Has any woman ever been so loved? If she has sons then yes, she probably has. If I have a new haircut or a new pair of shoes my boys never fail to notice and tell me how pretty they are. They can always brighten your day with a simple smile, hug, or their contagious laughs. I don’t have to fuss over their clothes or make sure their hair is fixed exactly how they want it. I don’t have to paint nails, play with dolls, or make them wear dresses they may not want to wear. By not having a girl I don’t have to do all these things and by having boys, boys are easier than girls in many ways just like this.

As a mom of three boys I find myself learning new things every day whether it’s about something the boys may have seen, heard, sports, outdoor things, or something their imaginations come up with, I feel like these boys are continuing to educate me on many things that interest them and I love every minute of it.  I am pretty sure that these boys will surely make a wonderful husband one of these days.
